Initially I bought VMware for old MacBook because of parallels high price issue but later on M1 I had no option because VMware was not in development so I bought what was in the market. They also have yearly subscription version which again high compared to standalone version. There is a cost involved with parallels to even maintain it. I have VMware on old MacBook too which works good but may not be as good as parallels. Parallels is very good on M1 so far but it’s a pain to pay money for every macOS version upgrade. There are two virtualization software that supports M1 as far as I know. The 8 gb model leaves 4 gb for windows and you will have poor performance for windows app. You need any virtualization (licensed) software which works on windows arm and M1, believe me you need 16 gb ram in M1.
